Dust from quarrying may pose a number of threats that need to be managed.

Dust can have a serious effect on the health of workers and neighbours (including leading to fatal illnesses), cause environmental damage and cause a nuisance to workers on-site and in the wider community.

This guide sets out to provide a high-level advice to quarry workers and is split into two sections:

Part A presents a summary of what workers need to know, including the answers to the key questions, including:

  • What is dust?
  • Why do we need to control dust emissions?
  • How can we do this?

Part A is a summary of the important information that should be read and understood by everyone working in a quarry.

Part B presents some further information not required to be presented in Part A, and may be used by those wanting to understand a little more.  It is structured in the same way as Part A to make it easier to find information, with key sections addressing:

  • What is dust?
  • Why do we need to control dust emissions?
  • How can we do this?
  • Managing risk

Part B is intended for managers seeking a little further information, or workers who are interested to read a little more.
