Concrete & Aggregates Tester
Narangba, Queensland

The role
We are currently seeking a full time Concrete & Aggregate Field Tester for our Narangba site in Queensland. This key role reports to the Laboratory Manager and you will undertake tasks in relation to sampling, testing and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Quality testing of concrete & raw materials
  • Maintain procedures and regulations in relation to sampling concrete & aggregates
  • Maintaining internal test frequencies
  • Maintaining Health & Safety and quality standards
  • Maintaining NATA accreditation
  • Communication with internal and external customers
  • Generally performing laboratory & field testing
What you will need to succeed
  • Commitment to safety, OH&S policies and procedures
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience within a construction, geo-technical or materials testing NATA accredited laboratory
  • A good communicator
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills
  • Highly proficient with computer systems and software
  • Diploma educated – preferred but not essential

Dangerous Goods Driver - Southern QLD

Sequel-Impact Drill & Blast is the largest top hammer provider of drilling and blasting services on the east coast of Australia. We deliver safe and effective outcomes for our clients who work in the civil, mining and quarrying sectors.

Our fleet of 40 plus varied rigs such as Pantera, DPI, Ranger, ECM 585, 660 and 720 and the smaller agile Soosan allows us the ability to meet the needs of even the most challenging sites.

With over 30 years’ experience in drilling and blasting our family owned and operated business combined with a can-do attitude, positive team culture and drive to succeed has seen our services grow quickly over the past 5 years. As part of this growth we currently seeking to appoint an experienced Dangerous Goods Driver, located in the Warwick/Toowoomba region west of Brisbane.   Primarily hauling dangerous goods. The roll is full time for driving, performing local work, with the possibility of overnight operations and working as part of our blast crew. There is also possibility for the right candidate to be trained up as a shotfirer.

You will be reporting to the Southern Queensland Operations Manager. Your responsibilities will be for but not limited to, the following:

  • The transport, loading and unloading of Security Sensitive Ammonium Nitrate for Sequel-Impact Drill and Blast Pty Ltd following the HSCQE policies, procedures and legal requirements of certain acts
  • Transporting of heavy loads i.e. moving drill rigs between project sites.
  • Working as part of a small blast crew team loading shots and general labouring activities
  • Provide positive motivation to all fellow team members to ensure an ongoing positive work environment at all times
 
ESSENTIAL Skills and requirements include:
  • Good understanding of applicable Safety and Workplace federal, state and local legislation
  • Strong customer focus Current HR Licence held for a minimum of 5 years
  • Security sensitive Ammonium Nitrate police check
  • Current Dangerous Goods license
  • Intermediate literacy and numeracy skills  
  • Construction Card
  • Ability to pass a police clearance check
  • The ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to use smart phones / technology
  • Flexibility to work to tight deadlines
  • Self-starter and well organised
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to cultivate authentic customer relationships
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and incident free operations
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol test
 
DESIRABLE skills include:
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Fork lift licence highly regarded
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience hauling doubles
  • A current coal board medical and Standard 11

The roll can either be part time for driving, performing local work, with the possibility of overnight operations or full time working as part of our blast crew.

Laboratory Technician – Quarries

Western Quarries is a business based in Ararat. Part of a broader business group the quarry is quickly become a leading supplier of quality aggregates and crushed rocks to the broader Western districts.

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to take the next step of your career with a leading company. You will be based in Ararat on a more hands on role, but not limited to testing and sampling of our quarry products. 

Key duties include:

  • Hands on sampling and testing of quarry products
  • Generating reports on test results and accurate record keeping
  • Calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Maintenance of laboratory in accordance with NATA accreditation requirements
  • Research & development of raw material products to ensure optimised quarry outputs
  • Develop, monitor and review inspection test plans (ITP’s)

The successful applicants should possess the following attributes:

  • Certificate 3 or 4 in Laboratory techniques
  • Experience in quality control testing of construction materials products is a must
  • Self motivated with the ability to work unsupervised
  • Strong understanding of NATA requirements 
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • High level analysis and problem solving skills
  • Current drivers licence

The suitable candidate should have all the above in a hands on role. You must be able to work flexible hours to meet operational requirements. Weekend work will be required from time to time.

As part of this growth and internal promotions we now have a need to employ a Shotfirer based in the Toowoomba area supporting South East Queensland. Only those with quarry experience need apply.

You will be reporting to the Operations Manager. Your responsibilities will be for but not limited to, the following:

  • Ensuring the safety of themselves and others when handling or using explosives and their ingredients
  • Comply with and enforce the requirements set out in the Standard Operating Procedures
  • The supervision of the blast crew under their direction
  • Conducting and/or being part of risk assessments with relation to explosive activities
  • The preparation and Set-up of a blast area which includes;
    • Demarcate the blast loading area by ensuring adequate barriers and/or bunting is correctly erected
    • Set up of signs,
    • Dipping of holes and recording (where required) on drill/blast plan
    • Identify holes that require re-drilling, are damaged or contain water
    • Backfill holes where necessary
  • Blast loading activities which include;
    • Follow the blast design
    • Laying out of Explosive Accessories
    • Loading explosives into blast holes
    • Checking of product column rise to design
    • Stemming of blast holes
    • Reporting of lost accessories or incidents on the shot
    • Clean up of blast area
    • Tie in of blast area
  • Preparation for the firing of the shot including;
    • Inspection of the tie in (walk the shot)
    • Liaising with the others and blast guards prior to clearing the area
    • Ensure the clearance of all personnel and equipment from the blast exclusion zone
  • The firing and post blast examination
  • Completion of blasting reports and explosive usage reconciliation
  • The handling of misfires
  • The disposal of damaged or deteriorated explosives in a safe manner as per legislative requirements
  • Transport of Explosives in compliance with the Australian Code For The Transport Explosives By Road And Rail (Third Edition) and SOP 002 Transport of Explosives
  • Attend and participate in Safety and tool box meeting
  • Reporting of any concern, incident or issues pertaining to explosive activities to Operation Manager, General Manager, SSE or government authorities as legislation requires
  • To understand and be able to implement the Sequel-Impact Drill and Blast Pty Ltd policies and procedures.
  • To understand that work may be required at more than one site, and travel will be required
  • Ensure all company information is kept private and confidential.
ESSENTIAL Skills and requirements include:
  • A satisfactory Police and ASIO clearance issued within the past 2 years as required
  • A current Queensland Shotfirers Licence
  • Proficient in laser profiling, bore tracking and blast monitoring
  • Construction Card
  • Computer literate
  • Intermediate literacy and numeracy skills
  • Australian HR drivers licence
  • The ability to work well with others.
  • Strong OH&S Focus
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment medicals and Drug and Alcohol screen 
  • Must have management experience and a minimum of 2 years field experience in mining, quarry or civil construction environments
  • The role will include some working away from home and may require some overnight stays, depending on the sites
  • Excellent presentation, work ethics and communication skills

The Role
