Get in early and book your accommodation for our informative and entertaining 'Technical & Social Weekend'.

The IQA have secured preliminary bookings for accommodation with Mountain View Country Inn.  These bookings are 'penciled in' only.  

Please note:  Accommodation MUST be booked directly with the motel, by August 31st.  Booking early will allow you a choice of rooms. Please mention 'The Institute of Quarrying' to get the discounted group rates.

We currently have the following rooms available for those nights:

  • 6 “standard queen” rooms, with a queen bed. $119 per night  for 2 people
  • 3 “queen rooms with mountain view”, with a queen bed. $119 per night for 2 people
  • 9 “queen/single” rooms with a queen bed and a single bed. $119 per night for 2 people, and extra $20 per night for a third person
  • 2 “budget twin” rooms. Very small rooms with 2 single beds. $89 per night for 2 people
  • 1 “family room” with a queen bed and 2 or 3 single beds. $150 per night for up to 5 people
  • 1 “self contained unit” with a queen bed and 2 or 3 single beds. Includes a kitchen and a lounge/dining area. $170 per night for up to 5 people
  • 1 “spa room” with queen bed. $150 per night for 2 people
  • 1 “deluxe queen” room, with a queen bed. $135 per night for 2 people 

All rooms include an ensuite bathroom, TV, DVD player, fridge, toaster, kettle. A microwave is available in the guest laundry.
Other facilities include coin-operated laundry, car washing facilities, parking outside the room, free DVD library.
Breakfasts are not included in the tariff but are available.

The IQA have not made any bookings at this venue. It is located around 10 mins from our motel. Please book directly with the Arcoona Manor, should you chose this option.

Getting there
From interstate fly into Launceston (closest airport). The venue is around 40 mins via the Bass Highway.

Programme

Friday night:
Check in at the Motel
6.00pm - 8.30pm:  Settlers Restaurant.
Please note, you will need to make a booking with the restaurant on check in. Alternative dinner locations are available and include: The Deloraine Deli, The Deloraine Hotel and The Empire Hotel. These all rate well on Trip Advisor and are located around 1km from the venue.
Breakfast is available in the motel but is not included in your tarrif.

Saturday: 9.30 am for 9.45 Departure
Ron Bugg’s Tours - Group tour bus will be arranged
Ron Bugg talks 'Rocks'. More details on the program will be sent closer to the day including information around the planned visit to Sibelco Mole Creek Limestone, Alum Cliffs, Devils Gullet, Honey farm, Wines, 41 Degrees Salmon and many more venues.
Lunch:  Lunch will be held at The Mole Creek Hotel.  The cost per head is to be confirmed.  Please advise any dietary requirements?
Saturday night: 7.00pm
A Group dinner is scheduled and the cost per head is to be confirmed. Please advise any dietary requirements? We hope to have a guest speaker to present to us on the History of the Mountain huts and caves in the area.

Sunday: 
Is a free day (non IQA) activities available to visit in the area include:

  • Mole Creek Cave
  • Marakoopa Cave
  • Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Pearns Steam World
  • The Raspberry Farm
  • Ashgrove Cheese- Elizabeth Town

What to Bring
Sturdy footwear
Jacket, warm weather clothing etc and sun protection for either weather
Sibelco Mine will require PPE that includes long sleeved shirts, trousers and a reflective vest

Tour Guide
Ron Bugg is an Education Officer with Tas Minerals Council and is an extraordinary sailor and old time geologist.

IQA Event Cancellation Policy

  1. Cancellation or Postponement by the IQA

    1.1.An IQA event can be an event held in person or virtually. An IQA event is any activity hosted by the IQA and may include Branch events, golf days, site tours or education activity such as workshops and webinars. Where circumstances force the IQA to cancel an event, a refund, limited to the amount paid, will be issued.
    1.2.Where circumstances force the IQA to postpone an event, a credit will be held for any fees paid and applied to the same event when rescheduled. If a participant is unable to attend the rescheduled event or the event is subsequently cancelled, a refund, limited to the amount paid, will be issued.

  2. Cancellation by the Attendee
    2.1.Cancellations received prior to seven (7) days out from the event, or on or before the advertised cutoff date of the event, will receive a refund, limited to the amount paid.

    2.2.Cancellations received within seven (7) days of the event or after the advertised cutoff date are not entitled to a refund. Paid registrations can be transferred to other persons from the same organization. Transfers of registration will be accepted up until 48 hours prior to the event.
    2.3.Some IQA events such as the national conference, H&S conferences and face to face workshops will have event specific terms and conditions. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure they are familiar with any specific terms and conditions relating to an event.
    2.4.If a registered attendee fails to attend (in person or virtually) on the day of the event, the person is not eligible for a refund.
    2.5.Any request for a refund or substitution must be made in writing to [email protected]
    2.6.All refunds and credits are to be approved by the CEO or Finance Manager.

IQA Privacy Policy

The IQA is concerned with the protection of your privacy. We support the Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), as amended. The IQA collects and stores your personal information for the purposes of providing membership services, education programs, and improving and promoting products, including publication of photographs and other images taken at IQA events and workshops. The IQA may distribute a delegate list in any correspondence relating to an event or workshop.
