A hazard is a source of potential damage, harm or adverse health effect on something or someone. As we know, quarries and associated industry sites are filled with hazards, which can turn into harmful incidents when not identified, managed and monitored appropriately.
Hazard identification is the process of finding and recording potential hazards that are or may be present in the workplace, and as such is an integral part of the safety function, which includes consistently assessing the risks in a workplace.
The Brady Review (2018) highlighted failure to identify hazards as a contributing factor to safety performance in the mining and quarrying industry. In 36% of serious accidents reviewed, the hazard which cause the accident was not identified, therefore there was no control in place.
The Hazard Identification webinar has been designed to examine the processes required to routinely identify hazards in the workplace, so that they can be assessed and controlled.
The webinar will cover:
- Hazard identification as the first stage of the Risk Management process
- Types of hazards
- Hazard identification tools and systems
