The Chain of Responsibility (CoR) law ensures that everyone who works with heavy vehicles, from the business that employs the driver to the place where goods are delivered, is accountable for safety. This means becoming part of the chain and having shared responsibility.
Crashes involving heavy vehicles can cause significant injuries and death. What is a reasonable level of influence and control when working with heavy vehicle stakeholders in the supply chain?
Course Overview
This workshop provides participants with the skills and knowledge to ensure the safety of transport activities. It includes identifying and applying Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) or applicable state/territory laws or regulations as well as identifying and reporting of transport safety risks.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the importance of transport safety and impacts of non-compliance.
- Understand the HVNL and Chain of Responsibility legislation, including liability and enforcement.
- Identify who is responsible and what are their responsibilities pertaining to transport safety.
- Understand the requirements to ensure transport safety with regards to fatigue, speed compliance, load restraint, mass, dimension, heavy vehicle safety and roadworthiness.

The importance of understanding CoR responsibilities sits at various levels of the organisation. Therefore, the course is recommended for anyone involved in the supply chain involving transfer of products off site and delivery to their destination.

Terry is a seasoned expert in safety, leadership and risk management with a focus on contractor and third party management. He was the Principal HSE Advisor with Broad spectrum working on the Mornington Peninsula Shire and Defence contracts. This involved managing over 800 facilities, parks and gardens, sporting venues playgrounds.
Terry's extensive experience ensures that participants receive practical knowledge and solutions for effective contractor and third-party management.
