Join us for the IQA Victorian Branch Winter Quarry Night and AGM.

Date: Thursday 8th August 2024
Time: 6:00pm - 9:30pm
Venue:     Northern Golf Club | 97 Glenroy Road, Glenroy, Vic

This event will incorporate a short AGM, electing a new Victorian Branch committee, a Guest Q&A, as well as an Industry Panel discussion.

Guest Q&A - Tom Calleja, The Block
Our very special guest joining us for a Question & Answer session will be Tom Calleja.

Tom will discuss his time on The Block including issues with material shortages, weather troubles, behind the scenes, friendships, highs and lows, and his on-going role on the show.

Tom started his plumbing apprenticeship in 2005. In 2011, he moved to the United Kingdom and worked as a plumber. He met his partner, Sarah Jane in 2014 and they purchased their first home together two years later before marrying in 2019.

In 2021, Sarah Jane was feeling bored so completed an application for the couple to appear on popular television program The Block. Tom didn't think they had a chance, but, unexpectedly, they were selected for the show and appeared on the show as contestants in 2022.

Tom was invited to return to the show for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, undertaking plumbing duties for the contestants.

Industry Panel
Enjoy an informal guest panel discussion featuring three veterans of the quarry sector with a combined total of more than 100 years of industry experience.

Guest panelists will include:

Peter Wilson, South East Sands
Peter is a third-generation participant in the quarry industry with experience in sand, stone, and scoria production. After completing his tertiary studies, he worked in a privately owned food manufacturing business before transitioning to the extractive industry in 2001. Between quarry ventures, he ran his own garden supply business in Melbourne's West. Today, he continues to work in sand mining in Melbourne's South East.

Shane Braddy, Construction Materials Consulting Services
Shane worked for Boral for 38 years, rising to several senior executive positions. He honed his skills, competencies, and experience through frontline operational quarry and general management roles. In early 2022, Shane founded Construction Materials Consulting Services (CMCS) Pty Ltd and is now consulting to the construction materials sector.
As a former President of the IQA and Chair of the International IQ Presidents Committee, Shane is passionate about the Institute's mission, diversity, and inclusion. He has been a strong advocate for improving gender balance on the IQA board, branches, membership, and administration.

Andrew Rankin, Boral
